Woman accused of truck driver Jatinder Brar’s death to stay behind bars

Friends have remembered Jatinder Brar as a ‘helpful’ and ‘responsible’ young man who helped his family back in India.

A 24-year-old woman charged with causing the death of truck driver Jatinder Brar in Adelaide will stay behind bars after she was refused bail on Monday.

25-year-old Jatinder Brar died at the scene after the driver of a white Ford Territory allegedly hit his truck and left the scene without stopping on Friday, January 4.

Police chased the vehicle soon after spotting it near the Port River Expressway.

Sophie Brine, the alleged driver of the white car, was finally arrested and charged with causing death by dangerous driving and dangerous driving to cause a police pursuit.

Her car, the white Ford Territory, was seized for forensic examination.

South Australia Police later confirmed the car was stolen from a Golden Grove address on December 28 and the woman had no fixed address.

Ms Brine will remain in custody until her next appearance in August.

'Helpful Brar'

Friends have remembered Jatinder Brar as a "helpful" and "responsible" young man who helped his family back in India.

“He was always ready to help everybody. I know when he first arrived here,” Aman Dhillon, one of Brar’s friends, told reporters outside the court.

“He managed very well in between his studies and work. He and he was helping his mother back home as well so it’s a big loss for the community and [his] friends.”

Friends of Brar have raised more than $85,000 to help fund his repatriation and financially support his family in India.

Police investigation continues

Police are still investigating the fatal crash at Salisbury South and have called for any dash cam or CCTV vision of the collision or white Ford Territory travelling through the northern suburbs on the morning in question.
