A 33-year-old woman from Oakleigh South has been charged over a crash that killed taxi driver Dilawar Shah Gardezi last Saturday, Fairfax reported.
Dilawar was on phone with his family when a car crashed into his taxi in Melbourne’s north, killing him on the spot.
He had just completed his night shift and was only a few meters away from his home when the crash happened.
Shah was speaking to his family in Pakistan when the woman allegedly crashed into the back of his cab at the corner of Lorne Street and Sydney Road in Fawkner at 4.55am last Saturday.
Mr Gardezi's friends told 7News earlier that Shah was an experienced and a cautious driver who would use hands-free while driving taxi.
Shah was due to go to Pakistan soon to marry.
