A video has gone viral in India in which a woman can be seen beating a man with a stick. According to media reports, the man in the video is a local bank manager. The woman claims he demanded sexual favours in exchange for the approval of her bank loan.
The incident occurred in south Karnataka's Devanagere city, some 260 km from Bengaluru.
The video, which has been shared widely on social media, shows a woman dragging the bank manager by his collar. She thrashes him with a stick and kicks him before pushing him to the ground.
In the 50-second clip, the woman can be heard asking the man to come to the police station.
The video raised immense engagement on social media where the #Metoo campaign is gaining widespread support. Many commented on the video praising the woman for her immediate action. Some called her a "The real #MeeToo warrior!"
Another twitter user and journalist Deeksha Bhushan says the woman is her role model.
The #Metoo campaign is gaining momentum in India as many women are sharing their experiences with men. Many famous men including filmmakers, journalists and artists have been named by the women as their molesters.
A minister in Narendra Modi's government, Mr M J Akbar, has been accused of sexual abuse by more than ten women. Mr Akbar, a journalist-turned-politician, has refuted these accusations as false.
