The stress posed by modern day living and work pressure tends to create anxiety and Yoga can be of great help for mental and physical well-being, says Nivriti Gargya, Sydney-based qualified yoga instructor.
"It can be used as a tool to work on body, mind and breath," she told SBS Hindi.
"Yoga asanas bring steadiness, health and lightness in the limbs.
"A steady pleasant posture produces mental equilibrium and prevents fickleness of mind. By practising a regular yoga asana practice, one develops agility, balance, endurance and great vitality.
"Asanas have evolved over the centuries to exercise every muscle nerve and gland in the body. These practices slow down anxiety, hypertension, panic, depression and generate a responsive mechanism in place of a reactive one.
"Breathing techniques improve creative thinking and a rational approach to problems in personal life and workplace. Loosening of subtle joints releases toxins from joints thereby energising the body and relaxing the mind," she says when asked about how Yoga helps us.
Talking about one of the most practised techniques, Nivriti says, "Pranayama brings breath control. It utilises breathing to influence the flow of prana in the Nadis (energy channels).

"These practices influence the flow of prana in the Nadis, purifying, regulating and activating them thereby inducing physical and mental stability. The regular practice evokes potential capabilities and clarity of thought."
