Scientia Professor Veena Sahajwalla from Sydney has been named an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) on Australia Day for her contributions to science, sustainable materials research, and waste management. Since 2021, Professor Veena Sahajwalla has been the head of the Micro Recycling Research Hub at the Australian Research Council and the University of New South Wales.

Professor Sahajwalla emphasised that achieving a more sustainable future requires collaboration among communities, manufacturers, investors, and researchers who can provide innovative scientific solutions.
