Australia has formally recognised the State of Palestine at the United Nations, joining over 150 nations and aligning with partners including the UK, Canada, and Portugal. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said the move supports a two-state solution, while Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned the recognition, vowing to prevent any Palestinian state. The decision has drawn mixed reactions within Australia.
