As demand for artificial intelligence accelerates, Australia is expanding its data centre footprint while facing rising concerns over energy and water use. The federal government has introduced new guidelines for those looking to expand or build in AI. The listed expectations are: prioritise Australia's national interest, support Australia's energy transition, use water sustainably and responsibly, invest in Australian skills and jobs; and strengthen research, innovation and local capability.
