Australian tunnel expert drops everything to lead desperate Nepal tunnel rescue - free of charge

Days after an avalanche triggered a deadly landslide and flooding in Nepal, rescuers have found four more survivors alive inside two of several hydropower tunnels, where hundreds of people remain trapped. The rescue effort is being led by Australian tunnelling expert Professor Arnold Dix, who is widely regarded as one of the world's leading authorities in the field. Professor Dix says he is providing his expertise voluntarily, working alongside an Indian rescue team that helped him save 41 workers trapped in a tunnel in Uttarakhand, India, in 2023. Before arriving at the first rescue site, Professor Dix visited a temple to seek blessings for the mission. The disaster has killed more than 1,300 people and left almost 4,900 others missing, including 36 Australians.
