Budget reply: Migration cap, tax reform 'politically attractive', won't fix housing says economist

The Coalition wants to limit net overseas migration to the number of new homes built each year. Reversing capital gains tax changes, scrapping negative gearing reforms, a $5 billion housing infrastructure fund and indexing income tax to inflation are among other key proposals in Coalition's first budget reply. But CDU's Associate Professor Rakesh Gupta tells SBS Hindi that while some of the proposals sound powerful politically, the real economic impact will be slow, partial, and in some cases unlikely.
