Agricultural labour shortages are causing the federal government to speed up the arrival of Pacific Island workers. A revamp of the migration program was the centrepiece of the Federal Government's Jobs and Skills summit held last week. New arrivals are expected to increase by 35,000 each year. The Farmers' Federation and Nationals, however, say it is not enough, estimating a shortage of 172,000 workers.
