Federal Budget 2026: Millions of Australian small businesses fear being left behind as prices soar

Soaring costs are putting serious pressure on Australia’s 2.7 million small businesses, with hospitality taking one of the biggest hits as rent, wages, and utility bills continue to climb. With the May federal budget just around the corner, many owners are hoping it will deliver real relief to help them stay afloat amid ongoing cost-of-living pressures. Sydney restaurateur Javed Khan says the strain is being felt daily, with business owners increasingly uncertain about the future as expenses keep rising.
