Girmit Ki Kahani

Today on Girmit Diwas of Fiji we bring you the heart touching story of the Indians sent to Fiji from 1879 to 1916 under the indentured labour system of the then British rule.

The simple folk were asked to sign an agreement and were promised a comfortable well-paid job in Fiji.

Most of the villagers could not even pronounce the word, "agreement" and called it, "girmit."
