Australian leaders, including Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Liberal Senator Dave Sharma, have extended their wishes to India and Australia’s 900,000-strong Indian community ahead of India’s 80th Independence Day. They praised the community’s contributions to Australia, with Albanese describing the diaspora as a “living bridge” between the two nations.
In a video message, Liberal Senator Dave Sharma said "As we celebrate the 79th anniversary of Indian Independence Day, I would like to take this moment to honour the courage and vision of those who secured freedom for one of the world's oldest civilizations, and today, its largest democracy. For millions of Australians with Indian heritage, myself included, this day is deeply personal. It's a celebration of family, culture, and the enduring values of democracy, resilience, and opportunity that unite India and Australia."
"Our 2 nations share more than a strategic partnership. We share a belief in freedom, in the rule of law, and the power of diverse communities to build stronger societies together.
