Israeli President Isaac Herzog is on a four-day visit to Australia. On 9 February, his first stop was Bondi, where he paid tribute to victims of a terror attack in December. The visit has been met with protests nationwide, and on Monday night, a demonstration in Sydney escalated into disorder, resulting in multiple arrests. NSW Police confirmed that 27 people were arrested, including 10 who were taken into custody for allegedly assaulting police officers. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said he was “devastated” by the events at the Sydney protest.
