Australia is marking NAIDOC Week 2026 under the theme 'Fifty Years of Deadly,' celebrating the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The milestone honours more than five decades of the modern NAIDOC movement, rooted in the 1938 Day of Mourning protest. While communities celebrate across the country, leaders say the week also highlights the ongoing work needed to achieve justice, equality and better outcomes for First Nations peoples.
