A national report reveals 341,500 migrant and refugee women are working below their level of skill and qualification, locked out of their professions by a system that fails to recognise their experience and delivers deeply gendered outcomes. Credit: Credits:Getty/Sarita Mcharg/Malini Raj

A national report, Activate Her Skills, released by the Australian Multicultural Women’s Alliance in partnership with Settlement Services International, has found that more than 340,000 migrant and refugee women in Australia are working in roles below their skill and qualification levels. The report highlights a major workforce mismatch, with only 41 per cent of these women employed in jobs that align with their qualifications. The podcast features migrant worker Sarita Mcharg, who shares her lived experience of these challenges and AMWA Executive Director Malini Raj, who explains the report’s findings.
