Petrol prices are expected to rise after temporary cut in fuel excise expires

Australia's high fuel prices have been eased a little by a cut in fuel excise tax over the past five months. Under the previous government, the usual rate of excise was reduced from 44 cents to 22.1 cents per litre. However, the cut is only scheduled to last until the end of next month, and the new government says it has no intention of altering it.
