The latest research by Human Rights Watch has discovered that photos of Australian children are being used to train artificial intelligence (AI) datasets. This discovery came to light during a supply chain investigation that was launched after deepfake images of up to 50 girls from a Melbourne-based high school were released last month. Professor Harvinder Singh from Torrens University's Centre for Artificial Intelligence Research and Optimisation explains how data scraping works and provides tips for staying safe online.
