Australian labour laws are different across states, but there has calls for a unification of laws and a strengthening of the minimum wage convention. The Joint Standing Committee on Treaties chair John Wilson says the purpose of the Convention is to effectively abolish child labour by ensuring that the right of children to attend school will be protected.
