From Delhi slum to Australia, meet Sumit who won 2022 Sydney Scholars India Equity Scholarship
After Sumit achieved 95 percent in his senior secondary school exams, Asha team members spotted Sumit’s potential and provided financial assistance for him to complete his Bachelor of Arts at the University of Delhi.
Sumit's journey to Australia is one of a kind. Sumit, who grew up in a Delhi slum colony, won the 2022 Sydney Scholars India Equity Scholarship. This year, he moved to Sydney to pursue higher education. As part of a collaboration with an Indian charity, Asha, the scholarship was established for exceptional students living in slum communities in Delhi. At the University of Sydney, Sumit is studying Master of Public Policy, making friends from all over the world, and also learning to swim.
