The Indian community in Australia has dismissed Senator Jacinta Price’s claim that Labor is bringing in Indian migrants to win votes, calling it ‘baseless’ and ‘hurtful.’ While several leaders from peak bodies and community organisations attended a roundtable with opposition party leaders in Sydney to address the issue, others from across different states stressed that the community deserves respect for its contributions to building modern Australia. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has also thrown his support behind the community, calling on Senator Price to issue an apology.
