President Joko Widodo receives a state visit from Australian Governor General David Hurley at Bogor Presidential Palace, West Java, Friday, May 17, 2024


The Governor General, as a guest of His Excellency Joko Widodo, President of the Republic of Indonesia, attended the official welcome, tree planting, tête-à-tête and a state banquet at the Bogor Presidential Palace.

Meeting between President Joko Widodo and Australian Governor-General David Hurley emphasised on the 75th anniversary of Indonesia-Australia diplomatic relations, and the 50th anniversary of ASEAN-Australian relations this year.

This is a return visit after President Jokowi to Australia, July 4, 2023. The arrival of David Hurley marks an important step in the bilateral relations of the two countries.

President Joko Widodo and Australian Governor-General David Hurley discussed strengthening bilateral ties, particularly through increased intercommunity contacts.

Australian Governor-General David Hurley also met with Defence Minister and Indonesian President-elect, His Royal Highness Prabowo Subianto.

It has been 50 years since Governor General Hurley and His Royal Highness Prabowo Subianto jointly participated in the first cadet exchange between the Indonesian Military Academy (then AKABRI) and Australia's Royal Military College Duntroon.

According to Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi the main focus of the reinforcement was strengthening English teaching, while Australia strengthened the teaching of Indonesian

Retno also said that the meeting also alluded to preparations for a second interfaith dialogue to be held in Australia this year.

“We are preparing for the second interfaith dialogue in Australia this year as well and it was also discussed by Mr. President,” the foreign minister explained.
