Dr Wawan Mas’udi, who is Vice Dean of the Politics and Social Studies Faculty at Gajah Mada University, talks about the accuracy of recent suggestions that Indonesia under President Jokowi is similar to the authoritarianism of the Soeharto New Order era.


How might we best assess if Jokowi’s Indonesia is a new form of Soeharto’s New Order?  Are there similarities in the rhetoric and the political players of the two eras? Why is it difficult to equate the Soeharto and Jokowi governments?  Dr Wawan Mas’udi explains his point of view.
