The Federal Government announced the scheme last June and promised worker arrivals to Australia from ten ASEAN countries by the end of the year.
The government has said the scheme will be offered to the 10 member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), which include Thailand, Cambodia, Brunei, Myanmar, the Philippines, Malaysia, Laos, Vietnam, Singapore and Indonesia.
The government is currently negotiating with four countries. But so far only Indonesia has signed a memorandum of understanding, but the status of the other three countries is still unknown.
