Until the impact of COVID 19 Ana Surjanto had built a cohort of a hundred young Moslem women who were keen to play AFL football. On 03 March she will speak at a seminar about how sports diplomacy can strengthen the Indonesia Australia relationship. But she also believes that growing the sport can bring social change. Why?

Ana Surjanto is a lecturer in English in the Faculty of Dakwah at the State Islamic Religious Institute (IAIN) in Salatiga.  She also is Indonesia’s first woman AFL accredited coach.  She explains to Sri Dean why she believes AFL football can be a part of a more inclusive style of education in Indonesia.
