Under the directives of the Mayor of Semarang, the Wonodri Urban Village has developed MSMEs (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises) to create jobs and boost the local economy. What kind of businesses have they established?
Noor Chosim, S.Pd., M.Pd., is the Head of Wonodri Urban Village in the South Semarang District, Central Java.
Aligned with the Mayor of Semarang’s Food Security program, Wonodri Urban Village has successfully established "Omah Keboen," an initiative integrating urban farming—specifically livestock and crop cultivation. In addition to a waste bank, Omah Keboen features catfish farming and the raising of KUB chickens (a superior breed).
According to Noor Chosim, the catfish farming operation has been upgraded to include further processing that adds value to the product. Examples include the production of catfish *abon* (shredded meat floss) and frozen catfish fillets, both of which offer a longer shelf life.
The challenge lies in how to further develop these businesses—addressing issues such as product marketing, human resource development, and enhancing MSME management capabilities. Mr. Noor Chosim explains these matters and other related topics.
