The announcement of the reopening of international borders on Monday 21 February has caused great anticipation for families planning to reunite, and businesses and airlines.

After 704 days, international travelers will be allowed to return to Australia. Currently prior to Monday 21 February only Australian citizens, permanent residents, their family members and *some vaccinated visa holders can travel to Australia.

The lifting of a nearly two-year ban on foreign tourists means only fully vaccinated tourists can come to Australia. This development marks another relaxation of COVID-19 travel restrictions.

This reopening is the first time vaccinated people from anywhere in the world will be able to visit Australia since March 2020. Travelers who are not fully vaccinated will be required to show proof of a medical exemption before being allowed into the country.
