Australia telah bergabung dengan Amerika Serikat untuk mengkonfirmasi boikot diplomatik terhadap Olimpiade Musim Dingin di Beijing, atas pelanggaran hak asasi manusia China. Perdana Menteri mengatakan keputusan itu 'tidak mengejutkan' dan bahwa Pemerintah 'tidak akan mundur' dalam membela keyakinannya.

The country's 40 or so Olympics will still be competing, and the AOC is happy to leave the political decisions on the Olympics to the government.

Beijing did not really respond to the boycott of the officials and said that it was the athletes who would compete, not the diplomats.

But Beijing has issued a statement saying the countries would "pay dearly" for its decision.
