Australia conducts a population census every five years. One of the benefits of the census is that it provides an opportunity particularly for the government to obtain valuable information about the population that would otherwise be unavailable. The next census is scheduled for August 11, 2026.
Dr. Salut Muhidin is a Senior Lecturer in Applied Demography at the Business School at Macquarie University.
According to him, a census is not merely a data-collection exercise but a snapshot of the population's situation across various dimensions such as economic, social, and demographic aspects. Under the Census and Statistics Act of 1905, participation is mandatory; therefore, anyone present in Australia on August 11th is required to complete the provided form.
