Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt says the government's new tracing app, called COVIDSafe, is about stopping community transmission.

The software aims to trace those who come into contact with a confirmed COVID-19 case.

The federal government says legislation on the app will come before Parliament during the 11 May sitting week.

New research from The Australia Institute shows that 45 per cent of Australians say they will download and use the mobile app, while 28 per cent say they won't. A further 27 per cent were unsure.
