In Australia the signing of the Solomon Islands-China security pact turned National Security into an election issue. There were warnings that the pact would be a threat to Australian security. Other commentators believed this was an over-reaction. But what might the agreement mean for Indonesia and the region?
Dr Nur Rachmat Yuliantoro is a lecturer in International Relations in the Faculty of Politic and Social Studies at Gadjah Mada University. He explains to Sri Dean how Indonesia should respond to the pact given Indonesia’s overall foreign policy and national interest.
