Leaders of the BRICS nations have gathered in Johannesburg to attend its 15th annual summit.

In 2009, an informal group of developing countries formed a bloc.

Brazil, Russia, India, and China then South Africa joined the group known as the BRICS.

They are now meeting for a 15th summit in Johannesburg, where they are considering expanding their membership.

China and Russia have reportedly suggested strengthening the bloc amid heightened tensions resulting from Ukraine's war and Beijing's growing rivalry with the United States.
