The rush to develop and distribute an anti COVID-19 vaccine has raised many practical and ethical questions in particular the issue of equitable distribution both domestically and internationally. However, a young Indonesian woman who played a key role in developing an approach to large scale production of the AstraZeneca vaccine has only selfless motives.
Dr Carina Citra Dewi Joe is a researcher at the Jenner Institute in England. She is one of the patent holders for the AstraZeneca vaccine. In early September, Dr Carina explains to Sri Dean her role in the development of the vaccine and her hopes for its use. And there is an Australian connection.
