COVID-19 cases are soaring worldwide, with millions of positive results recorded internationally over the past week. The figures have prompted the World Health Organization to renew their call for citizens everywhere to have access to vaccination programmes.

In the past week, the number of COVID-19 cases worldwide skyrocketed to reach 9.5 million cases over the last week alone, a 71 percent increase in the weekly number of infections.

Several countries that have been able to vaccinate their populations with the first and second doses are now turning to booster programs to minimize disruption to daily life and key moments.
