Complaints from small businesses against telecommunications companies - or telcos - have reached their highest level in three years at nearly 20,000.

According to the telecommunications industry ombudsman, that was a 6.6 percent increase in the last financial year.

And complaints about financial losses due to telephone and internet problems have increased by 13.3 percent.

Of the nearly 20,000 complaints by small entrepreneurs this year, more than a quarter are related to landline telephone errors.

20 percent were related to the internet, but the largest number of complaints were against companies offering bundled services at 34.1 percent - an increase of more than 30 percent last year.
