Dr Stephen Miller, a lecturer in Indonesian Studies at the University of the the Sunshine Coast and Rifka Sibarani, a PhD student at Charles Darwin University disccus the emergence of Xenophobia as a social consequence of the spread of COVID-19.

The emergence of COVID-19 as a global health and economic problem has been accompanied by vigorous xenophobia in Australia and Indonesia. especially towards the Chinese. There are historical explanations, fear has been a factor and social media has been highly effective for spreading accusations and blame. Dr Stephen Miller and Rifka Sibarani suggest ways to deal with the hatred.
