With supermarket shelves looking bare of meat, fruit and vegetables, food distributors are asking for government support to help fix the situation.

Part of the issue is the lack of rapid antigen tests and national cabinet is due to consider rules about isolation if workers are identified as close contacts.

A lack of products on supermarket shelves has become a familiar sight for shoppers over the past week or so.

With truck drivers and supermarket workers either sick with Covid-19, or identified as close contacts of positive cases, it's placing pressure on the supply chain for producers, independent stores and supermarkets.
