The Australian New Year's resolution phenomenon often ends in failure in no time, as revealed by the latest research from MyFitnessPal.

Recent surfey-based data shows that three out of four Australians give up on their resolutions even before January ends.

Although the majority of people set major goals such as losing weight, exercising more, and reducing stress, they tend to get stuck in the same cycle each year.

Many individuals willingly spend large funds of up to more than $1,000 to reach those targets, but often fail because they are stuck in unrealistic goal-setting patterns, such as going on an overly restrictive diet.

Michaela Sparrow, a nutrition expert from MyFitnessPal, explains that the main cause of this failure is the ambition to achieve perfection rather than balance.

As a solution, he advises people to move on to small, more realistic and sustainable changes, for example by adding portions of vegetables or taking regular walks every day.

In addition, raising awareness of nutrient intake through food tracking is considered much more effective than making extreme changes.

By focusing on healthy habits that fit into everyday lifestyles, people are expected to achieve more meaningful long-term goals in 2026.
