The death toll from the deadly flash flooding that hit Jayapura, Papua, still raising according to the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB). What are the conditions now? How is the refugees being handled? Raimondus Arwalembun, a social activist in Sentani who helped refugees, explains.


The city of Sentani in West Papua experienced a big flash flood last week after three straight days of heavy rain led to massive flash flooding which brought down trees and boulders from the surrounding mountains, crushing hundreds of homes in the process.

Hundreds were killed and around 10,000 people have been displaced.  They are taking refuge at 15 evacuation camps in Jayapura regency and they urgently required basic provisions such as food, bedding, clean water, clean clothes, generators and much more.
