Last night Peter Bol won the men's 800 metres at an athletics event in Poland. This came not long after his magnificent performance at the Tokyo Olympics when he was the first Australian male to compete in an 800 metres final in 53 years. He inspired the nation.
Dr Paul Thomas is the editor of the book Talking North that charts the history of Indonesian studies in Australia. He is also a champion runner in the 800 metres. Dr Thomas explains to Sri Dean why Peter Bol’s achievements in Tokyo are so special.
