Pandji Pragiwaksono performs everyday-life material when doing stand-up comedy overseas, but still weaves in Indonesian issues.
Many people say that when he performs in Indonesian and in English, he comes across as two different comedians, Pandji Pragiwaksono told SBS Indonesian.
Pandji Pragiwaksono, commonly known as Pandji, said that in Indonesia he mostly discusses sociopolitical issues. However, when performing in English before international audiences, Pandji tends to explore topics closer to everyday life, such as relationships, the migrant experience, and culture.
Despite this, Pandji said he still slips in material about Indonesia's political landscape. The material has actually received a positive response from international audiences, such as when he performed at the Oslo Freedom Forum. Audiences there gained an understanding of the political situation in Indonesia, Pandji added.
In Australia, Pandji Pragiwaksono's English-language stand-up comedy shows are held in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney, and Perth. The series of shows runs from 26 to 31 August 2026. The tour is part of his international tour, which also includes the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands.
During his Australian tour, Pandji hopes his audiences will come from both the Indonesian diaspora and Australian residents so they can learn about Indonesia, Pandji said. "It would be really wonderful because they could learn about Indonesia through this show", Pandji said.
