The government will not release them because it is said to be dangerous for the Australian community.
But it also said it would not deport them as that would violate Australia's international refugee obligations.
As of August 31, 2020, the average length of time for people detained in detention facilities was 564 days, but migration said the duration could be much longer for refugees ensnared with Article 501 canceling.
They are likely to remain in detention until there is a change in Federal policy, or an end to the worldwide conflict that brought them to Australia.
