Australian employment laws vary across states, but the maximum number of lawful working hours for children aged 16 and under in each state is relatively lower, with between 3 to 4 hours of work on the school day.

Australian employment laws vary across states, but the maximum number of lawful working hours for children aged 16 and under in each state is relatively lower, with between 3 to 4 hours of work on the school day.


In Australia, the treaty committee has recommended that the government support the International Labour Organization Convention on a minimum age for work.

Such conventions are the means used by the global community to ensure there is no child labour. And the compulsory study age is the minimum age for work, 18 years for hazardous work, and 13 years for light work.
