The new Indonesian diaspora shared story about his experience celebrating EID-al-Fittr for the first time in Australia.

Andika has been in Australia for almost 3 years, but this year is the first time he celebrated EID al-Fitr in Sydney.

Andika spoke with SBS Indonesia about his transition to life abroad.

His first Ramadan in Australia felt less vibrant because he was living alone as a religious minority; however, he still caught glimpses of that familiar spiritual warmth during Friday prayers.

The primary challenge is the combination of longer fasting hours and summer heat, which significantly complicates working during the day.

As Lebaran arrived, his deep longing for family and traditional Indonesian flavors was overwhelming. However, that sense of isolation vanished when he received a warm silaturahmi invitation from relatives long settled in Sydney.

Sharing the warmth and joy of Eid al-Fitr with those who matter most makes the celebration truly complete.

Andika learned a poignant lesson: the true magic of Lebaran in his homeland only became clear once he was far away. Being abroad taught him never again to underestimate the togetherness he once took for granted in Indonesia.
