Outbreaks of coronavirus within choirs in Europe and the United States has forced many singing groups to move all rehearsals online. But is singing itself to blame for the virus' transmission?

In early March, the United States Skagit Valley Chorale gathered in a church in Mount Vernon for rehearsal.

Only 61 of the 122 choir members attended the practice -  but 52 of them would become infected with COVID-19, leading to two deaths.

Similarly, in Europe 102 of 130 singers from Amsterdam's Mixed Choir also contracted COVID-19, with one member dying.

But what remains unclear is how the virus was transmitted at the choir practices.

People in Australia must stay at least 1.5 metres away from others. Check your state’s restrictions on gathering limits https://www.sbs.com.au/language/indonesian/bagaimana-negara-bagian-dan-wilayah-di-australia-melonggarkan-pembatasan-virus-corona.

Testing for coronavirus is now widely available across Australia. If you are experiencing cold or flu symptoms, arrange a test by calling your doctor or contact the Coronavirus Health Information Hotline on 1800 020 080.

The Federal Government's coronavirus tracing app COVIDSafe is available for download from your phone's app store.
