Recently the Solomon Islands government announced the signing of a security pact with China. People expressed concern that the pact presented a threat to regional and Australian concern. Will China build a military base in the Solomon Islands?


Greg Barton is Professor of Global Islamic Politics, in the Alfred Deakin Institute for Globalisation & Citizenship (ADI) at Deakin University.  He explains to Sri Dean what the short-term and long-term implications of the China-Solomon Islands pact are for Australia.
