Beyond serving as an occasion to celebrate Indonesia's independence day anniversary, this community event acts as a platform to introduce and promote Indonesian food and culture to Australia's multicultural society.
Now in its 26th year, the Indonesian Community Council (ICC) NSW Festival & Bazaar is regarded as a highly anticipated annual event for the Indonesian community in Australia.
Lini Khun, President of ICC NSW, explained that the event involves various communities under the ICC umbrella. This year, it will feature 26 stalls — 22 of which will sell authentic Indonesian food — alongside a range of entertainment, such as live music and fashion shows.
What distinguishes this year's event is the venue. Ms Khun stated that one of the reasons for moving the location from Croydon Park to Bankstown was to reach a larger segment of the Indonesian community. She also emphasised the event's importance in promoting Indonesian culture to Australia's multicultural society and upholding the identity of the Indonesian diaspora.
With a variety of engaging activities and high levels of participation, it is hoped that the festival will continue to be held annually without failed, just as it has been for the past 26 years.
