Indonesia-born independent musician Putrika has released her first album, titled Wanita. She has previously released an EP titled Silmara in 2022.
Wanita contains 10 songs telling stories about friendship, community, journeys as a migrant and feelings of being close to nature that she particularly experienced after living in Australia - in Sydney and surroundings, which is known as the traditional lands of the Gadigal and Dharawal peoples.
One of the songs in Wanita, Tea and Honey, tells of encounters with communities that become important parts of our lives. Fittingly, the song’s video clip features dancers from Suara Indonesia Dance, which is indeed close to Putrika’s heart, as she is one of the dance teachers in the group.
Moving from one music scene - Jakarta, Indonesia - to Sydney, Australia is a big step to take. Additionally, Putrika made a switch from being a singer used to working with bands to an electronic musician whose creative and production processes are done mostly solo. However, her optimism and spirit has brought her to this point and opened many opportunities.
