Indonesia's position in the Russia-Ukraine conflict is considered unclear. On the one hand, this attitude is considered cautious, but on the other hand this choice is considered not to reflect the attitude of Indonesia's foreign policy which is free and active.

Indonesia's position is indeed difficult. According to the international relations observer at Jenderal Soedirman University, Dr Agus Haryanto, Indonesia has a great dependence on two parties. For Russia, for example, Indonesia relies on fighter aircraft technology, because the Russian product, the Sukhoi, is used by the Indonesian Air Force. Not to mention if China takes a firm stand against those who are hostile to Russia. It could be that Indonesia will have problems from an economic perspective.

But on the other hand, it is also very unlikely for Indonesia to take a stand against Ukraine, which is supported by Europe and the United States. In this case, Ukraine became the side that was attacked by Russia.

Dr Agus Haryanto reviews the issue, Indonesia's choice of attitude and the risks in the following interview.
