Covid-19 vaccination mandates are increasing globally as countries work to contain the spread of the Omicron variant. Much of the effort to treat the variant was diverted to vaccinating children for the first time.

Peruvians over 18 now are required to show a complete COVID-19 vaccination certificate to access public places with closed environments.
The mandate will apply nationwide, although officials say the new Omicron variant has not yet reached Peru.

A new mandate has been imposed in Italy with the vaccine now mandatory for all law enforcement, military and school employees.

Similar support for the measure came from German MPs who strongly supported the bill which requires kiosks in hospitals and nursing homes to be vaccinated.

In South Africa, the country is seeing another spike in daily COVID-19 infections with Health Minister Dr Joe Phaala saying more than 90 per cent of these are the Omicron variant.

Portugal has joined the list of countries looking to immunize children aged five -11 years.
